Homeopathy is a scientific medical practise which was developed over 200 years ago by a German physician named Samuel Hahnemann.  Dissatisfied with the high mortality rate and degree of suffering that was inflicted on patients of medical doctors at the time, he developed a system using the smallest possible doses of naturally occurring plants and mineral substances.  Homeopathic remedies are tested on healthy people in a process called ‘proving’ where an excess of the remedy causes a range of symptoms to appear which are then catalogued, giving the Remedy Picture.  When a homeopath takes a patient’s case the patient’s Symptom Picture will emerge and because Homeopathy works on the principle of ‘like cures like’ the homeopath matches the Symptom Picture to the appropriate Remedy Picture and prescribes accordingly.  The Homeopathic Consultancy adheres strongly to the accompanying homeopathic principles that only a single remedy is given and that this is given in the smallest possible dose.

Homeopathy is a holistic treatment, it works on the whole person, so whether you have simply a feeling of being unwell or a chronic condition such as arthritis, Homeopathy can correct and rebalance the vital force and strengthen the immune system – it helps people to help themselves.  Children react particularly well and rapidly to this form of treatment.

Your G.P. will give your illness or condition a name and treat you with the medicine indicated.  People with the same condition will receive the same medicine or treatment regardless of how they are reacting to their illness.  Homeopaths see not just the illness but the person in that condition and will spend time taking a detailed case history of the whole person.  Homeopathic treatment of two individuals with the same condition will frequently require completely different remedies.  This is why a homeopathic consultation is so necessary before treatment can begin.

You have to help the Homeopath by responding to the questions asked during the consultation.  Your Homeopath will need to know how you react to your illness and what you do when you are in pain.  Some people will rush to the medicine cabinet at the first sign of illness, others will keep going in the hope that they can ‘fight it off’ and will only seek help when on the point of collapse; some will want to be alone and others will want someone to hold their hand or mop the fevered brow.  Some people will want to know why they are ill so that they can prevent future attacks, others just want the pain to go away NOW.  Each individual’s reaction to his condition is a pointer to the remedy he needs to get well again.

No.  Homeopathy is non-toxic and safe.  However, once the immune system is stimulated by the remedy, the body may go through a detoxification process which can take a number of forms.  This is a transient process which is healthy and necessary and your Homeopath will support you through it.

Children have largely not been exposed to so many conventional medicines or had to face so many emotional issues.  Their ‘state’ is therefore easier to correct and because their energies are generally so high the process is swift.  Homeopathic treatment for children is gentle and safe.

Good nutrition is the cornerstone to a fit and healthy life.  Nutritional therapy aims to change an individual's metabolism from an imbalanced state - which may be causing minor or distressing symptoms and which may ultimately lead to a diagnosable disease - to a state of balance, allowing the body to return to optimum health.  Dietary and lifestyle changes may be recommended, often supported by nutritional supplements based on individual needs.
